GROUND SUPPORT:

Ground reaction curves for support design are a robust tool when the rockmass deformation is able to be accurately forecast.

Using a mine-scale model, calibrated with over 10,000 displacement measurements spanning micro-displacements to extreme drive deformation (>2m), support loads were able to be calibrated to the point rehabilitation rates were able to be predicted within 10%.

The figure shows load on support as well as plastic strain for a proposed SLC sequence.

The key to successful support modelling is to simulate drive deformation very well. For an example of very detailed drive modelling, see the fly through on the cave modelling page.
